Nigel Farage is Britain’s version of Donald Trump. He was influential in the Brexit movement – yeah, he is one of those Brits. He truly is a buddy of Trump’s and both ran similar campaigns in 2016 – they both ran on xenophobic and anti-immigrant platforms. I suppose we can count on ignorance electing the worst of the worst in any nation. Now he is flapping his jaws, warning Americans about the Jews. Apparently, they are the biggest threat to the US. Someone forgot to tell all the Muslim-haters.
On his radio show (why do all these blowhards have radio shows?) this past week, he singled out the “Jewish lobby” in America. The subject was actually the Russian interference in our presidential election. However, a caller brought up Jews and Farage could not stop himself from Jew-bashing. He said,
There are other very powerful lobbies in the United States of America, and the Jewish lobby, with its links with the Israeli government, is one of those strong voices. There are about 6 million Jewish people living in America, so as a percentage it’s quite small, but in terms of influence, it’s quite big.
Jewish civil rights’ groups immediately condemned Farage’s anti-Semitic comments. Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan A. Greenblatt said,
Nigel Farage’s comments about the role of a powerful ‘Jewish lobby’ in America plays into deep-seated anti-Semitic tropes about supposed Jewish control of government. This is fuel for white supremacists who exploit and spread conspiracy theories about ‘evil, controlling Jews.’ Conflating a Jewish and Israeli lobby is not only conspiratorial and false but could have the unintended consequence of encouraging anti-Semites and extremists to exploit them.
Excuse me if I’m wrong, but haven’t we already seen what happens when anti-Jewish rhetoric goes unchecked? We do not need to revisit that page in our awful history book.
If you are wont to believe complete idiots, please be aware of the Jews! However, if you don’t tend to believe racist assholes like Trump and Farage, go about your daily lives and just be kind. Being kind is far less work than hating everyone, anyway.
