When Caitlyn Jenner shed her former self and announced to the world that she was going to live the rest of her life as the woman she was truly meant to be, she was applauded for her brave decision. But in the very same interview, she also announced that she was a Republican and that she’d continue to support the party that has inflicted so much pain on the transgender community. And even worse, she later vocalized her support for Donald Trump and refused to back down even as it became obvious that he was a bigot who planned to do nothing to support her people. Now, however, it seems as though she has seen the light.
In an interview with Newsweek that was digitally published on Saturday, Jenner spoke out against the Trump Administration:
As far as trans issues, this administration has been the worst ever. They’ve set our community back 20 years, easily. It’s going to be hard to change, but we’ve been through these types of things before and we’ll continue to fight it.
When Trump announced his transgender ban in the military, Jenner also spoke out. However, a few days later she was caught by paparazzi wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat, hardly a strong stance against the president.
It’s important to note that Jenner did not say she was switching political parties. She did not lash out at the entire GOP and, in fact, she said she has great relationships with Republicans since attending the inauguration of President Dumpster Fire,”I did come back to the inauguration to meet people. And out of that I have built some very nice and good relationships with the Republican Party, but I have not been back to see Trump.”
She doesn’t seem to understand that the Republican Party doesn’t give a fuck about her. And while Donald Trump may be the immediate threat, the Republican Party has and always will be the one thing standing in the way of true equality. As long as she continues to support them, she will not truly be supporting her community.
