Chris Christie is not a popular guy. In fact, his approval rating, 15%, has made him the least popular governor in the history of New Jersey. Hell, Christie isn’t even popular with the Republican Party. In 2016, the unpopular loudmouth ran in the Republican primary and won zero states. Christie dropped out in February 2016 after pouring everything he had into the New Hampshire primary and only receiving a little over seven percent of the vote. So, it is interesting that Christie is now claiming that he’d totally be president…if only Donald Trump had stayed out of the race.
With his tenure as governor winding down, Christie gave an interview to NJ Advance Media and said:
It’s incredibly frustrating to think to yourself, ‘Wow, if this guy were not in the race, we’d win this thing,’ and I absolutely believe if Trump had not gotten into the race I think we would have won.
To hear Christie tell it, you’d think he was in second place to Donald Trump during the primary, but that isn’t true at all. Maybe Christie smoked a little bit of the wacky tabacky before giving this interview and forgot about his horrible finish in New Hampshire. In addition to New Hampshire, Christie also failed hard in the Iowa Caucus, receiving 1.76 percent of the vote. In both New Hampshire and Iowa, Christie was behind Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush and John Kasich. Does that sound like he totally would have won were it not for Trump?
As much as Christie would like to rewrite history, he can’t. He will leave office with a number of scandals tarnishing his record, a failed presidential run and less than a quarter of the state supporting him. But hey, maybe if he is a good little boy, his friend Donny will give him a job in the White House.
