We all know about the Creation Museum. It is the monstrosity in Kentucky that teaches adults and children all about how God created the world and has displays showing humans and dinosaurs cohabiting peacefully. It’s a complete fantasy visualized by fundamentalist “Christians” with absolutely no knowledge of science.
One of their ex-security officers was just caught with an arsenal complete with dozens of guns including AR-style rifles, tactical equipment, and the explosive C-4, which is a military grade explosive. Joel Ryal, the former employee of the religious museum, was arrested in Mississippi when it was reported to authorities that a package with C-4 labeled on the outside was spotted outside his home in Florida. Deputies attained a warrant after receiving the tip and found a block of the explosive that weighed over one pound. In addition to the explosive and guns, they also found silencers.
Sheriff Grady Judd of Polk County, Florida stated,
Joel Ryals has a checkered law enforcement past, however, there is absolutely no reason for him to have this equipment. The military-grade explosives, materials to build bombs, and tactical equipment found in his possession are extremely dangerous. Although he posed no immediate threat to our community, he certainly could have used them for the wrong reasons
While Ryal may not share the same religious ideas of his former employer, religion and weapons are a terrifying combination. Although to be fair, it must be less so for some when the culprit is white, amirite?
Perhaps even more frightening, is the fact that Ryals is still in law enforcement. When he was arrested by the feds, he was busy conducting K-9 training for local law enforcement officials.
If our gun problem really is a mental-health problem like the GOP is so fond of saying, why aren’t the police – the ones put in charge of protecting us – being subject to more checks? How could someone so radical be accepted as an officer of the law?
