On Monday, CNN reported that Wisconsin GOP hopeful Kevin Nicholson’s parents, Donna and Michael, apparently aren’t behind his run for Senate since they donated the maximum amount allowed in an electoral season, $2,700, to Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) the current Senator.
Nicholson held similar beliefs to his parents, even speaking at the 2000 Democratic Convention until he was deployed in the Iraq war in 2007 and was “livid” with the Dems hard-line stance against the war. He stated:
I knew what we were doing there. We were stabilizing that country. We made incredible amounts of progress. And what I was hearing back home was a complete and absolute lie, as politicians were running around calling it a failure.
Alrighty then, I’m still against wars in general, for the record. And the Iraq war appeared to be started on a flimsy excuse, but that’s just me. I am for supporting our troops, who don’t have a say in where they’re deployed and are there to do their jobs. And I am for supporting them when they return and may be dealing with physical and mental health issues and need help.
Nicholson released a statement after the news broke of his parents’ recent donation:
My parents have a different worldview than I do, and it is not surprising that they would support a candidate like Tammy Baldwin who shares their perspective.
Gee, ya think? I’ m sure this has caused some *ahem* interesting conversations during family holidays.
He also stated:
I’m a conservative today not because I was born one, but because of the experience I earned as a Marine in combat, my experience as a husband and father, my choice to be a Christian, the schools I chose to attend and the decision to pursue the career that I have. Regardless of who may disagree with my life decisions, I would not trade these experiences for anything, and they will always guide my views as Wisconsin’s next U.S. Senator.
Yeah, that’s sweet, however, if his”experiences” and “choices” are so shitty his own parents do not want to support him how are the people of Wisconsin rise up and fight for him?
