House Republicans Are Pushing HHS To Screw Women Across America

in Daily New Bite/News/Politics by

House Republicans still haven’t figured out that what a woman does with her body is her business. They still seem to believe that we need their help to decide where we should get cancer screenings and family planning services. According to The Hill:

House Republicans are pushing President Trump‘s health department to add abortion restrictions to the federal family planning grant program.

The Title X Family Planning Program funds organizations providing birth control, cancer screenings and other services to low-income women and men across the country, but conservatives have long argued the program indirectly supports abortion.

Members of the Republican Study Committee (RSC) are asking the Department of Health and Human Services to ban health clinics, who give women information about abortion services, to be banned from receiving Title X funding. In other words, it is their roundabout way to defund Planned Parenthood and clinics like them. A draft letter by the RSC to HHS Secretary Alex Azar states:

The Title X Family Planning Program is in dire need of review and updated regulations that ensure program integrity with respect to elective abortion.

No, it really doesn’t need to be reviewed. Federal money does not pay for abortions, therefore Title X money is not paying for abortions. However, under current law, clinics that receive Title X funding are required to tell women all of their options when they test positive for pregnancy. Telling a woman that she has options does not equal supporting abortions the same way telling someone a burner is hot supports burned hands.

The Republican Party’s war on women’s reproductive rights is getting really old. This is a party that wants to outlaw abortions but doesn’t want to do anything to prevent the need for abortions. They are against free birth control. They are against comprehensive sex ed. They claim they are against these things because they are pro-life but are also against medical and food assistance for the babies they want to force into the world.

In short, the GOP needs to keep their hands off of our healthcare. It’s none of their business and just further highlights their immense ignorance and breathtaking hypocrisy.
