The White House literally tried to use the “blame Obama” strategy after Michael Flynn agreed to testify against Donald Trump. It has to be the most pathetic defense ever by an administration, but that’s what happens when you get blindsided by Robert Mueller.
Another move was made by Mueller today in the most interesting chess game of the year when news broke that former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn pleaded guilty on a lesser charge in exchange for testimony against Trump. Flynn will reportedly testify that Trump ordered him to contact the Russians.
This is a massive problem for Trump because it blows his whole “the Russia investigation is FAKE NEWS” claim out of the water. That’s right, conservatives. Trump has been lying to you and everyone else about his involvement with Russia. And the White House was so shocked by the breaking news that they tried to cover Trump’s ass by claiming that President Obama approved Flynn’s actions.
“They are saying here at the White House that Flynn’s conversations with Sergey Kisylak were quote ‘authorized’ by the Obama administration,” CNN reporter Jim Acosta said. “We should point out, that is something that we have not heard before in terms of a defense from this White House.”
But former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, who served under Obama, shot that claim down hard.
That’s absurd. That’s absolutely absurd,” Clapper told CNN. “There was great concern at the time, not just with this particular contact, but with the violation of the principle that historically been followed of one president, one administration at a time. So to say that we blessed it, or acquiesced it is a stretch.
Not only did the Obama Administration fire Flynn from his position at the Defense Intelligence Agency in 2014, Obama himself warned Trump not to trust Flynn.
It’s highly unlikely that Obama or anyone in his administration would have given approval to someone they didn’t trust to contact Russia officials, especially someone who was fired by the administration.
Flynn’s plea deal was so shocking that even Fox News contributor Andrew Napolitano called it a “nightmare” for Trump.
“This is probably the tip of a prosecutorial iceberg, so to speak,” the longtime judicial analyst said. “It’s a nightmare for Donald Trump, because General Flynn was his constant companion on foreign policy and national security matters from June of 2015 to the time the President fired him.”
“Robert Mueller has enough credible evidence to charge the president of the United States with a crime,” Napolitano later told Fox anchor Shep Smith.
And that’s why the White House tried to blame Obama. Trump is scared to death that he is headed for prison so he tried to blame the black guy for his crimes. That’s exactly the kind of thing a racist coward would do.
