Democratic Senator from West Virginia, Joe Manchin, told MSNBC’s Willie Geist on Wednesday morning that he does not support a ban on AR-15 rifles. The Senator is a gun owner but pointed out he does not own an AR-15. However, he says he does have friends who own some, but they aren’t committing any crimes.
Ummm… that’s not really the point, Senator. If those friends were to suddenly tire of said rifles and decided to sell them, they could, hypothetically, end up in the hands of someone who could commit a crime with them.
The Senator is not a complete gun fanatic. Manchin does support commonsense gun control. He would like to see a ban on bump stocks and supports banning people on the no-fly list from buying guns. He is also in favor of raising the legal age to purchase all firearms to 21.
However, Manchin skirted around the issue of banning AR-15s in the future when questioned by Geist. He stated,
Well, they’re sold now legally. I’m not going to weigh in on that at this point in time… I don’t have a desire to buy one. I don’t own one…. Let’s put it this way, I have a lot of friends who have sports cars. I’ve seen them. 200 on the speedometer. 200 miles per hour. Do you think they’re gonna go 200?
The famous car-gun argument! It’s such bullshit. Cars kill people but cars aren’t manufactured as weapons. This argument has no legs to stand on; apples and oranges. Manchin knows it’s an election year. Manchin is also aware that really red West Virginia loves its 2nd Amendment. He’s an idiot, but he’s not completely stupid.
