Meghan McCain never thought she would see a sitting American president blindly trust the word of a Russian dictator over our own intelligence agencies.
But here we are.
Over the weekend, Donald Trump referred to American intelligence officials as “political hacks” and said that he trusts Vladimir Putin when he says Russia did not interfere with the 2016 Election, even though there is strong evidence proving otherwise and our intelligence agencies agree that Russia did, in fact, meddle.
Trump would later try to walk back his remarks after receiving outrage from the American people.
However, it was too little, too late in the eyes of the women on The View.
Trump’s insults against our intelligence community especially galled Meghan McCain, whose father John McCain slammed Trump for believing a former KGB colonel over American intelligence officials, and birthday girl Whoopi Goldberg.
McCain warned Americans to not allow Trump to normalize Putin.
“It is very, very important that we don’t get desensitized to how intense this is,” McCain began. Continuing, he said,
Our president of the United States of America is saying we can’t trust our intelligence community but we can trust a KGB murderous dictator who is aiding and abetting the largest refugee crisis since World War II, the gassing of innocent children in Syria right now, while trying to annex the Baltic states, annexing Crimea, everything going on in the Ukraine. He’s dedicated to the destruction of the west and we’re watching this play out in real time…I implore the American public this is a moment in history. I was deeply upset over the weekend of statements. I think everyone should know this is intense. This is serious. If we’re going to normalize the gassing of children — this is a watershed moment for us as Americans. We can’t let anyone get away with this.
Goldberg concluded the segment by saying that “there is no one in this country that can stand up and say ‘I agree with anything that is happening.’ I don’t care if you voted for him. You can’t be an American citizen, who believes in our democracy and side with that.”
Of course, many Trump supporters and conservatives are perfectly happy to accept Putin at his word and actually have the nerve to praise Putin and his policies.
Here’s the video via YouTube.
McCain and Goldberg are right. Putin cannot be trusted and Trump is a fool for believing him. Frankly, it’s borderline treason for the sitting American president to throw our own intelligence officials and agencies under the bus despite all the evidence while accepting the mere word of an enemy leader who wants to see America bow at his feet and democracy destroyed.
