Representative Trey Gowdy (R) was interviewed on CNN’s New Day on Wednesday morning where he admitted that Congress has now launched an investigation into alleged wife beater Rob Porter’s employment with the Trump Administration.
Gowdy, who headed the Benghazi investigation, said that he is disturbed by almost every aspect of the Porter scandal. The congressman told Alisyn Camerota that he does not understand how a man who was credibly accused of domestic violence was given any position in the government.
After some back and forth with Camerota about the violence and security clearance issue (which Gowdy tried to downplay as not as big a deal as the violence) the New Day host asked if an investigation has been launched:
Camerota: “Just so that I’m clear, will the Oversight Committee be launching an investigation into this?”
Gowdy: “We did last night.”
Camerota: “So it’s official.”
Gowdy: “That word probably means more to you than it does to me. What matters to me is that we are directing inquiries to people that we think have access to information we don’t have. You can call it official. You can call it unofficial. Those words don’t mean anything to me.”
It’s cute that he tried to downplay the fact that he is now investigating a Republican White House isn’t it? He must not realize that some of us are old enough to remember the enthusiasm with which he investigated Hilary Clinton for Benghazi! and her EMAILS! Now that it is his party on the chopping block, he’s shy. Of course, none of this really matters since we know Gowdy isn’t actually going to get to the bottom of this anyway.
